Lessons From My First Entra ID Video
Snapshot
I finally posted my first Microsoft video covering external users in Entra ID. Here’s what went well, what felt rough, and what I want to improve next time.
Posting the first video felt good, even though I could immediately see things I want to improve. The entire recording process felt very cringey. I'm naturally monotone, so working on modulation, inflection, and intonation will definitely be a thing moving forward.
I'm not aiming for super excited influencer energy here. Just a bit more excited to be talking to you than I currently come off lol.
Biggest Lesson
Recording something technical is very different from understanding it.
The biggest lesson was that recording something technical is very different from understanding it. You can know the material pretty well and still feel awkward trying to explain it clearly on camera. I noticed silent gaps, parts where my delivery felt flat, and sections I'd definitely tighten up next time.
I thought I had a decent outline for walking through the material, but found myself thinking out loud essentially throughout the walkthrough video, which I don't want to do. I don't want to waste your time with my live thought process. I just want to get right to it and show what is relevant clearly.
That said, I'm still glad I posted it.
What I learned
- Simpler explanations are better
- Recording takes more energy than expected
- Editing matters a lot for pacing
Going Forward
I want each Microsoft video to feel a little tighter, clearer, and more intentional. This first one wasn't perfect, but it was progress.
